Tiling around outlets?

I am installing a mosaic backsplash on my bathroom vanity. I would like to make it 6" high. I have two outlets that are 4 1/2" above counter. Moving the outlets is not an option. I cannot go above the outlets because my round mirror is 43" and I've already had to move the light up.

Remove the outlet plates, tile, replace the outlet plates. If tile are thick, only role to where the plate edge will be or the cover will be too far away from the actual outlet .

You will have to cut the tile around the outlets , then replace the outlet covers .

    Thank you.

The problem is that the tile will go halfway up the outlet plates. Sharon, are you saying that I should leave the plates on and tile around them?

If I remove the plates and tile around the outlet, then replace the plate, I will have a large gap between the untiled wall and the plate.

Can you move the outlets up a.few inches? Might be worth the expense of hiring a pro to do that.

Thank you for all your thoughts! I actually ended up tiling it 4" which will be perfect with our mirror. Happy with the results!
