How do you prevent streaking when using polyacrylic over chalk paint?

I like to seal my chalk painted pieces with poly instead of using a wax. I have tried various brushes and even a wipe on poly, applying several coats and sanding between coats, but always end up with a streaked finish. Is there a secret to getting a smooth finish?

Are you adamant about using a poly instead of wax? Because that could be one of the main reasons why you're getting a streaky finish on your chalk paint.

Chalk Paint is designed to be used with wax. If using a water based poly, especially with darker colors, it can show streaking because it absorbs the poly unevenly. If you're not going to use wax, then have you tried using an oil based poly?
