I have a solid wood coffee table from the 60's that my husband won't part with. It's been in his family forever! It needs some help. It's ugly and I want to make it nice looking. It sits in our living room everyday and I have to look at it. Is there an easy way? Everyone tells me it's too big of a task. Is it? What's the best or easiest way to add some pizzaaz to it?
Thanks so much!

White paint or black paint. Use differnt hardware on the bottom door can get piece of glass cut for top and then under that glass could put pretty photos or photos of family..... color or black and white use quotes from pretty sources or written words on paper

I would clean up the table really well and since the glass is in such good condition , carefully remove and place beloved family photos from your husband's childhood under it. I'd bet his family would be happy to make copies for you when they found out what you wanted them for .

You could paint it. Chalk paint works great because it needs little prep work. You can sand it to distress it, or use a vaseline method where you wipe vaseline on several places where you want the paint to wipe off/look distressed, then paint the whole table, painting right over the vaseline, and then when the paint is dry you wipe the spots where the vaseline was and it comes off looking distressed in those areas. Or chalk paint and then paint a fun stencil on the top. You can find fun furniture stencils here that you can just transfer onto the furniture:

For a completely different look, sand, prime, paint. Inside the oval: soft white or cream, the rim and legs in black, dark green or navy blue, the bottom shelf: cream, the drawer front: cream with an updated pull. So many combinations.... Have fun. It IS a beautiful table. I'm sure you'll enjoy it once you create a more updated soothing color theme that fits your current decor. Enjoy.

try sanding the top and put a checker board or other game layout on the top of the table

Since your couch looks like its dark grey, I would paint the base dark grey to match or one shade lighter, then I would also either paint top an off-white or cream, or scuff up the top with sand paper, and gel stain it a darker wood tone like mahogany, cherry, walnut. Get some new hardware. I think I would lose the glass for a more modern look.

Too big a task? Hahaha never! Sand that bad boy down, since the top is in such nice condition...I would stain it with a different stain and poly it. Definitely paint the bottom! Although I hear a lot of chalk painters don't sand and prime...I always do! There are so many options! You can prime it a dark or bright color...chalk paint a soft gray or white over it and then distress to let that prime color show through. Definitely update the drawer pull...either with something new or by painting the existing one. #nettes_emporium (Instagram) or www.facebook.com/nettesemporium/ if you want to check out some pieces I have done. =) Life is too short...GO FOR IT!
