Tree and shrub soil
I live in Californias Central Valley so rose planting time for me is in March. Out here, mixing a couple of shovels worth of compost or composted manure into the bottom of the hole and backfill works great. I also add a good systemic at that time. Don't forget to soak your roots!
The soil that came from the hole...don't change the texture or the plant (any) mat not make an east transition to the walls of the hole...for roses, mound yo the soil and place the crown just above ground level..spread the roots out over the mound and refill the hole. Do not feed for about ,30 days, but keep evenly moist...not wet
I usually use the existing soil and some of Miracle grow's soil for rose's and believe it or not, they thrive on banana's. So throw some brown or ripe banana's in the hole cove with some soil then add your rose's and fill it in watering well when you are done. You can continue to throw a banana or two around them through the year as well. Just mush them right on top of the soil. Rose's love potassium..
Use Red Bud Farm worm castings, it helps hold moit's, not over wet, allows for open spaces in the dirt for bits of air, helps to repel insects such as aphids, viruses and disease. Whit flie , spider mites, red- bud-farm.com or e-mail @aol.com
