Any ideas how to crackle to match chippy paint? I had to plane the door to fit and would like to match the panels. Not sure chalk paint/ distressing would give me the look I want

There are a lot of crackling mediums out there you could try. But I'm not sure if you will get the long crackling effect you are after. You could also try using Miss Mustard Seed milk paint on the finished wood - it gives a nice distressed/chippy look to pieces that already have a finish on them.

You could use plain old Elmer's Glue. This is what I use to crackle. I let my dry totally dry then paint, some leave their paint wet but you can only make one swipe with another paint over it. Or you could use a blow dryer, or heat glue. One the first coat of paint is dry paint a second coat. Then dry it, it will crackle.

I use a product called weathered wood by Deco Art. You can get it in 8oz. bottles. I'd practice on a piece of scrap wood first to get a feel for how the product works. The heavier you put it on the bigger the cracks will be. After it has dried over night you could then take a bit of sand paper to it and knock off a bit more paint to add to the aged look.

Thank-you all for your suggestions on crackling. I stained the raw wood dark, used a cracking medium which my neighbor had and dry brushed.distressed with sand paper and a putty knife . Will seal with wipe on poly(love the stuff) after I'm happy with the distressing .Cost...4 hrs.
