Fixing Splintered Wood

I love working with wood but now and again I use the wrong blade and end up with splintered wood. Usually I turn the splintered wood towards the back of the project but sometimes there isn't a "back of the project." When that happens I grab the spackling and get to work. http://www.therozyhome.com/2014/01/15/394/
Splintered wood - before and after.
Splintered wood.
Splintered wood when it's been painted.
Step 1: Grab the spackling.
Step 2: Apply a moderate amount of spackling to the splintered wood.
Step 3: Once the spackling has dried, lightly sand the area (I use a 320 grit sandpaper).
Step 4: Paint the wood. That's it!
This is a picture of the same area one year later (to show that the spackling holds up).
