Remember those bulbs I planted last November? (Yes, of course you do: http://www.hometalk.com/diy/daffodils-for-florida-yes-2496812) Well, here it is mid-January and the first one just bloomed. Old House Gardens said Minor Monarque, an heirloom bulb dating to 1809, "is often the first tazetta to bloom in the new year" and they were right. As far as I'm concerned, no matter how short your winter is, there's nothing like the first daffodil bloom of the season to cheer you up.
