Modern DIY Shelves For Just $25!

I was perusing Pinterest one day and I was inspired by some modern shelving I saw for purchase. Looking at the $300 price tag, I thought to myself, 'I bet I can make something similar pretty easily.' This idea would roll around in my head for more than a year before I recently got the gusto to build them.
I went to my local home improvement store and bought
– Four 1″ x 4″ quality pine boards, 8′ long = $8.84
– Two 1″ x 12″ quality pine boards, 8′ long = $16.76
The lumber for this project amounted to just around $25!

I used my chop saw to cut them to size, 4' wide for the shelves and 6' tall for the supports.
I stained the shelves Jacobean and painted the supports semi-gloss white. These products were leftovers I did not have to pay for.
I used a Kreg Jig tool to drill pocket holes in the various pieces to create strong perpendicular joints by drilling the screws at 45-degree angles.
If you have never heard of a Kreg Jig before, be sure to visit my blog post to learn more about how to create gorgeous furniture with this useful tool.
This is the wall I built the custom shelves, replacing the dresser buffet that was there. See the process of putting together the shelves on my Youtube page, you can even watch the video time lapse of the assembly!
This is after building them onto the wall. I made the shelves floating so that the air vent underneath would not be visible, but could still do its thing.
This is after styling the shelves!
I'm really happy with how these shelves turned out and how strong they are, thanks to the Kreg Jig tool.

You said the lumber cost was about $25 yet when I add the lumber you listed it's more like $75. Was the lumber list wrong? $25 would cover one of each of the boards. I'm confused and want to know before I head to my lumber yard. I'm making one for my home. Thank you for the inspiration!
