To safely clean latex-painted interior walls, mix three or four drops of dish detergent in half-filled bucket of water. (Or you can go “old school” use two or three tablespoons of distilled white vinegar to a gallon of water.) Wet a sponge in the mixture and wring it out dry.

As long as the paint is not a flat paint, today's paints are scrubbable.

Flat paint will not do well being washed - it will look worse than it did when it was dirty! All other paints are washable - eggshell, semi-gloss, gloss. An exception, I hear from the Behr paint rep, is the Behr flat enamel. It is supposed to wash well.

Yes! My mother washed the walls every spring and fall. I'm not that obsessed, but do it every couple of years. Mr Clean erasers take care of scuff marks nicely

If you use a very mild solution of warm water and a household liquid cleaner (Spic & Span) the walls should turn out OK as long as the paint is "washable." Wash from the bottom up so water does not run and leave streaks.

Yes you can wash walls. Keep in mind the glossier the wall paint is, the more durable it is for washing. Flat paint does not stand up as well in being durable. Use warm soapy water and a sponge wrung out.

  • Yes - for most paint. Flat paint will not wash as well as other sheens.

Yes, most paints can be washed by using a mild soap with lots of warm water and a sot cloth. Do not saturate or scrub the painted wall too roughly. Be sure to not let the solution run drip or run down the walls. TSP can be used instead of soap, mixed according to directions on the product.

Yes you can but You need to make sure that there is as little excess water as possible. If the sponge is too wet — and the paint is not waterproof — you may find that it starts to damage the paint as you clean. So, give it a thorough squeeze before you start. Begin at the bottom of the wall and work your way up.

This normally only happens with flat paint. Semi Gloss and Eggshell can safely be washed.

Only if it says Sponge or Washable on the tin of paint you used!
