Storage Bench Makeover

When I stumbled upon this bench at a yard sale, I was excited. We can always use more storage in our house! But when I got closer to it, I was a little LESS excited. The cushion was badly stained, it was missing the bottom piece inside the bench (meaning you couldn't actually store anything in it), and there was a gap between the seat and the frame (meaning it wouldn't STAY closed). The nice woman told me she would take $3 (it was listed at $5) so I decided to buy it and attempt to work some magic. I wasn't convinced that I could actually make this one work though.
