We like low lights on our deck in the cool evenings so I found an idea to use a tree branch. Then I planned a tree from a Pottery Barn knock off that displayed bats and spider webs. I changed the webs for lights and the bats for glass butterflies. This tree decor can be changed for all seasons!
You can see the transparent butterflies of blue, yellow and green. To make a lighted butterfly tree here is all you need.
Begin with a tree branch or faux tree branch with limbs to hang butterflies and lights.
My husband added a wooden block to help stabilize it. He drilled a hole in the base of the branch and added a toggle bolt with a screw. Then we set it in a planter bucket.
We added sand or dirt and some rocks to anchor the tree and give it a lower center of gravity with the added weight of the rocks. These are from my petrified wood rock garden.
Then we added lights and butterflies of various colors.
The flash covers up the bright lights that reflect through the glass butterflies.
It really lights up the deck with a soft light and makes our evenings more fun. I can change the butterflies to other objects for the changing seasons. My tree is good for all seasons with a choice of leaves, apples, pumpkins, Christmas lights, hearts, eggs, or birds.
The butterflies shine brightly with the white lights behind them. I am no photographer, but we love our little butterfly tree. You need an outside plug if you do not use battery lights. There are many choices of decorative lights now in white or all colors and sizes. These were small LED lights.

My Christmas tree for the past few years has been a lighted twig tree full of birds.

Elaine, I love that idea! I love birds too. Thank you for telling me. I might cover this one with red cardinal type faux birds. Thank you for that idea!
