I'd like to make a cute shelf (have great ideas thanks to Hometalk!) then hang in my little patio for my small plants!
Just use drywall patching compound in the joints. Once dry I use a damp sponge to smooth it out. Prime and paint.
You can rent or purchase a hopper and spray texture on the paneling then trowel a pattern or just smooth it down. Work in small sections and have some rags handy in case you need to wipe mistakes and do it over. Then sand, prime and paint the walls. No need to cover the grooves in the paneling since the texture will fill it in. Move over the lines at a 45 degree angle as if you were grouting.
Yep...just use plain joint compound to fill the cracks. Use a flat edge putty knife to fill the cracks, then sand them smooth after they have dried completely. Prime the paneling first, then paint. FYI - If you choose not to fill the cracks first, the walls will have a cottage / coastal look that is very nice as well...
You can also use the textured, pre-pasted, paintable wall paper. It comes in many styles and textures (even flat) and is thick, so there is no evidence of the paneling underneath. You can paint or leave it white and it's totally scrubbable. Put on new crown and baseboard and you're all set. Easy peasy and gorgeous!!
just go over it with sheetrock
