Chalk paint works nicely on kitchen cabinets. There is really no prep required, just clean them and lightly sand and chalk paint adheres to just about anything and gives a nice, soft finish.

Prep is key! Remove all of the doors and label them. Use a piece of masking tape and number the doors with and put a corresponding number in the cabinet.

Then remove all hardware. Put each door's hardware in a zip bag labeled with the corresponding number.

Wash each door and the frames with a de-greaser.

If the cabinets are in good shape, you can probably get away with a light sanding. If there are blemishes, more sanding will be required. Use wood putty to fill any holes or dents.

After sanding, wipe with a tack cloth to remove all dust.

Apply a good primer and allow to dry as instructed on the can.

Apply 2-3 coats of paint. You can use a brush or a roller depending on the look you are going for.

You may want to use a semi-gloss paint as it is easier to clean.

Once everything is completely dry, install the doors.

Remember that paint takes a while to cure, so let everything dry longer that you think you should.

I know folks that have used this and cabinets turn out fantastic.
