What is the cheapest way to shade a back patio and make it look fab?

Buy a canvas drop cloth from the paint department, They usually have brass grommets in them. Use it to mount either is a side privacy wall or as an awning sort of thing. Paint it with some acrylic paint to what you think is fab looking!$20 and a few hours. Tada!

Do you have a style in mind? Pergola, covered patio, sail shade? Even places like Big Lots have glorified EZUp type structures for a few hundred dollars, but honestly you might want something a bit more sturdy and longer lasting. I put up 3 triangle shade sails. (I live in Tucson, AZ) I love the shade! sails are from Costco. Great buy.

What did you anchor them with? I have a raised deck that gets a lot of sun. Just not sure how to get it shade?
