Mix 1/3 cup of plaster of Paris and 1/3 cup of cool water; stir until completely smooth. Mix that with 1 cup of latex paint and stir thoroughly. This will make enough chalk-finish paint for one coat on a six-drawer dresser. Chalk-finish paint should not be stored and reused.

Cindy makes great stuff so I trust what she says. Kara makes another kind of chalk paint - here is the link for that and she has a video at the bottom. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/paint/how-to-make-chalk-paint-with-baking-soda-26085922, good luck

I paint a lot of old furniture, have used many costly brands and tried out every recipe for chalk paint. The recipe I use with the best results is made with 2 tablespoons Calcium Carbonate per 1 cup of paint. (I purchase the Calcium Carbonate online---very inexpensive and a little goes a long way). I usually mix the Calcium Carb with flat latex interior paint (but the Calcium turns any finish paint---eggshell, satin, or gloss---to a matte finish). This recipe dries to a smooth finish most like the expensive branded chalk paints, it stores well so can be reused even after several weeks. Also the Calcium recipe mixes very easily so no worrying with clumps or chalk bubbles.
