Old time basement shower- DIY option to remove it?

I just moved into this old house that has a basic shower in the basement. Probably where they went after tending to the coal furnace. Well the drain goes to this hole that we have to bail out after our showers. Does anyone know if this hole can be sump pumped out? The only drain would be on the other side of the basement to the washer sink. What should I DIY.?

I would hate to remove a source of water. I would try to ge the drain connected to a real drain and then you could put in a sink.

To connect the shower drain to any other drain , I think i will have to put one in the floor. I can't do that without a contractor.

Your best bet is to call a plumber and ask for suggestions and an estimate. If it's too expensive, you don't have to go ahead with the work.

i think i would stand in a galvanized wash tub while i showered. catch the water and then drain vie sump pump. use a hula hoop to support the shower curtain.
