Can laminate cabinets be painted?

My kitchen and bathroom cabinets are made of plain Laminated wood and we are sick of looking at them and we would like to paint them but don't know if Laminate can be painted. If it can be painted, how do we do it so that it will stick and won't look cheap? We need your help, please!

Use acrylic latex paint. Remove the doors and hardware. Mark the doors and cabinets with tape where they go. Lightly sand the doors and cabinets to remove any gloss and roughen the surface for paint. Prime with a stain blocking primer like Zinsser 123. Then paint with your color. Seal with at least three coats with a water based polyurethane. Use a small foam roller and foam brush for a smooth finish.

If you like rustic, you can use chalk (not chalkboard) paint. Start with a lower cabinet base board, or the inside of a cabinet door. That will give you a feel for the texture of the paint and how it would cover your cabinets. No primer needed. You can buy small samples of any color at the large home improvement stores for $5 or less, then buy the paint in larger quantities if you choose it. Also, there are many recipes and tips for making your own chalk paint online. Best wishes 😇

Rustoleum Cabinet Transformations...goes over ANY substrate and looks amazing...in my opinion...WITH the glaze. The sealer that comes in the package is terrific. Everything you need comes in the kit. Many colors from which to choose. Just follow the directions on the CD included. I always put 2 coats of sealer, and the cabinets last and last. Have fun with it! You will be so glad you changed them!
