One time I changed plain vanilla pillar candles into faux birch candles by using wax paper. I measured the diameter of the pillars, and the height. Then I cut off a sheet a little larger than needed, and taped it to newspaper pages to protect the paper. Then I painted a large stripe of off white latex paint on the wax paper at the same height and width as the pillar. When the off white paint was nearly dry, I used my oldest ruler and a pencil, to draw lines for separate birch bark strips. Then I used some brown paint to draw over the lines and to pull a little of the brown into the strip. I also used the paint to draw small knotholes, and I feathered the edges a bit. When the paint was dry, I remember feeling so scared. I peeled the paint off in strips, glued them with Elmer's all the way around, and let them dry. I believe I did six that day, and they looked good several years. Best wishes 😇
