Just bought a home and my husband wants to restore the original brick

on a budget we don't have time to experiment to see what works or not. Please any advice would be appreciated.
You could look into sandblasting to remove the paint if it is really on there. Do you know what the original brick looks like? Perhaps he won't like the color.
Another option I've seen that looks nice, is to paint the brick and the siding at the same time. The differing texture of the siding and brick looks great with contrasting shutters.
Be careful...bricks are glazed and can become porous if that glaze is blasted away which will allow water to seep in, and that will affect the basic structure of brick.
Paint he entire house the same color with a contrasting trim.
Since you house is behind trees, seems shaded and has a dark roof, I would paint a light color, a little darker shade for the windows if they are wood and are to be painted, and darker shutters.

Can't tell from the photo: are the bricks painted or just dirty?
If it's just environmental grime and tree sap, you might try just power washing in conjunction with a degreaser type of cleaner.
It looks like a brick first story and sided second story? If the brick just needs to be cleaned, just power wash it. We spray on Simple Green or whatever cleaner you prefer, wait 10-15 minutes and then power wash. We do a section at a time. They do make brick sealers that you just paint on. You can ask which is the best at the hardware/paint store. We have used the sealers with great success.
