I use chicken wire or hardware cloth, both available at Lowes. Pound in some small wooden stakes about 3' apart. Unroll the chicken wire and cable tie it to the stakes. Pull it up and reuse next year.

The best thing to do with squirrels is to distract them from your garden beds. You may want to try placing some corn cob feeders on the outer perimeter of your yard to keep them busy. The other thing I do is to spray my plants with diluted hot sauce to keep them from chewing on my plants.

To keep squirrels and cats from digging in your garden, lay bird netting down between your plants secured with long landscape staples. It is very flexible and easy to cut to whatever shape you need. It can be picked up and reused season to season.

Nothing. The little buggers eat everything and are very destructive.
