How can I completely eliminate locust trees? Those thorns hurt!

It started with just one...then two...now they are popping up everywhere. I want them gone forever! These locust trees are the worst! The whole family has been impaled by the dreaded locust thorns at one time or another. The poor dog has been a victim on several occasions. Last summer, I had a thorn go right through my thick soled shoe and halfway through my foot. I had to use needle nosed pliers to get the broken off thorn out of my foot. Seriously. It was not pleasant. I love trees. I love nature. Locust trees however...Locust trees deserve no mercy!

  • Kill them with vinegar. I would spring for the agricultural vinegar in this case. May take several applications and needs to be reapplied after any rain. Just know you will not be able to replant in those spots for a bit, and when you do, it will need to be amended before you plant anything.

When suckers appear, use heavy gloves and twist suckers off at the root they're growing from. Be vigilant, and don't let them get too big. They are much easier to remove when small, and thorns are small, too.

Get a green bottle of poisin ivy spray at store. This stuff will kill anything you want gone. I use it on that ugly vine that grows crazy.
