What is a unique way to change the looks of old Youngstown cabinets ?

The lower cabinets & upper cupboards are ancient and the finish is only wearing off around where the chrome cabinet handles are. I would like an unusual way to change their looks without having to sand/strip them. They are not rusted and are in great shape.

If you are willing to paint, you could use chalk paint. It requires no prep or sanding. Just clean and paint. Or you could cover them with contact paper.
I painted mine with semigloss paint and have not had any problems. Another option that I did at a friends house was to use peel and stick copper tiles intended for a back splash. It turned into a very unique cool look.
