You can use chalkpaint! Its so easy to use, no sanding or priming necessary! And, it looks great!

I would use cabinet paint which is designed for the tougher use the cabinets will get. You can choose, satin, semi-gloss or glossy. The more gloss the easier it is to wipe clean. You can choose one color for top cabinets and another for bottom cabinets. Grey is in right now and some people are doing light grey on top and a darker grey on the bottom. I have white cabinets that need some touching up (painted about 3 years ago). I'm thinking about keeping the doors white but putting a medium to light grey on the cabinets themselves. The hardware is black and I want to keep that.

But it sounds to me more like your counter top is the problem. Isn't that the part that "hasn't fared so well"? If so, you might want to look into Giana counter top kits for granite or marble. There are other brands coming out so I'd research it to see what is available. One hometalker bought her own primer and paint because she love the brands, then purchased just the Giana sealer. There are many ways to mix it up to save money or customized it to what you like. I've been told that Parks Clear Seal is excellent (found it at Home Depot) so I decided to 'practice' by doing a table top. I used Chalk paint for the legs and my own paint for the table top. It's almost done - I just have to wax the Chalk paint and seal the top. If you use Chalk paint you can wax it in a different color from the paint to give it texture but remember it has to be regularly waxed to keep it looking good. I'd look at all of these ideas by searching each one to see what you like.
