Giant tall, perennial grass that has been in current location about 6 years; now have to move because of redevelopment. . . Don't want this beautiful plant destroyed!

Perennial grasses have very deep large roots. Make a very wide cut around the root ball.Have your new location dug up and it should be twice the size. Put some peat moss in the bottom, place the grass in and fill with soil, tamping out all the air. Make sure this is done when it is not sunny or hot as that will help the grass no to go into shock. Keep the roots well watered until the grass takes.

Thanks for this . . . Anything special about splitting the root ball?

It is about 5 feet across . . . would like to split and propagate...

This might surprise you, but I have three this size!

      Cheers,
