How to Paint Wood Paneling

Rather Square

Painting knotty-wood paneling is a little different from painting ordinary drywall, in that you need to remember that there are natural oils present in the wood surface. We used a heavy-duty primer specifically formulated to block these oils and keep them from seeping through our paint job. Do you mean that they run horizontal? Either way, this technique would work for any wood paneling. I say go for it!

Why paint it? The wood is beautiful. My parents had 2 rooms added to their home in the 1950's with this kind of wood & before it was sealed they stained each one of the knots to highlight them. I know trends change but you can't get the patina back once it's painted. Maybe I'm just out of step with trends but real wood in paneling & furniture is getting more & more expensive I say celebrate it if you have it.
