Is it only in one area? Does the sheetrock flex when pushed up? Do you have an attic to see what is causing this to happen? Is it nailed or screwed into the joist?

First determine why its sagging and coming apart. If there is a slow water leak that left the back of the wall damp but not wet, you may not see the water damage but damage is done . If it isn't addressed , you'll be doing it again sooner than you'd like .

Sounds like a leak to me.....take down the panel at the point of the sag. And check your pipes, and if there is a bathroom above it, check the shower, tub and toliet.

Absolutely! Is this sheet rock or plaster? It's hard to tell. A job like this really requires a professional, in my opinion.

Absolutely get a professional ( or 2-3) to look at it for you. Let them determine the cause, AND the fix.
