When you twist one end of the pipe tight aren't you unscrewing the other end of the pipe? Is pipe available with opposite threads so twisting tightens both ends? I saw a great bunk bed ladder but cannot see you could tighten one joint without loosening the other joint. Pipe components are expensive. Any answers?

What kind of screws did you use to attach the flanges at the top? I see you're going into brick, so probably something with anchors. I've done a bit of research on my project, as I'm attaching the shelves to lathe and plaster walls, and it looks like toggle bolts would do the trick, but they don't really fit well in the flanges.

FYI, shop around for the pipe and fittings. Most people go straight to their local big box hardware store but you can often find it cheaper at professional plumbing supplies. OR, and apologies for the self-promotion, my company has most of the parts (not the wood), already degreased, electrostatically painted and stove hardened quite a bit cheaper too. http://www.blackfriarsironworks.com or https://www.etsy.com/shop/BlackfriarsIronwork...

I recently went to MENARD'S & Home Depot to price the pipe pieces and parts and discovered the PVC pipe in the same parts.

Laer that afternoon I stopped at a friends new pub and found he had used the PVC pipe in the 1" size to create the waitress station and on the gate as well as atop his fence. They're holding up great and spray painted black you can't tell them from the real thing!
