Need new lamp shades!

Found several nicely shaped older lamps, but where are some good places to get large lampshades that are cheap enough to recover and redecorate? The shades at my local consignment store (where the lamps came from) are too beat up for me to figure out how to upgrade them.

Lorna, I buy most of my lamp shades at WM T-get and L's Home Improvement stores. Now knowing the sizes of the lamps or shades you need, I'm not really sure if they have them in the size you need.
  • Don't know if you have one in your area, but you can find really inexpensive lamp shades at "Ollies"

I haven't been successful in finding decent lamp shades in thrift shops. It seems by the times the lamps are ready for donation, the shades are way past their prime. If you don't need a BIG shade, Dollar General has shades for about $5, and I'm pretty sure I've seen similar at Family Dollar. These are ideal for personalizing. I also save the wrie frames from old lampshades to use with ribbon, beads, etc.

You might try garage sales for shades. You saved on the lamps maybe you can splurge on a nice shade. Target had decent shades at a fair price so does World Market.

Wow, y'all, thank you! I'll try out Ollie's (had NOT thought of that store!) Nor had I thought at ALL of Michaels! If the cold, frozen weather ever leaves, and I still don't have awesome shades, then yes it's yard sale time :-)
