I've got an old 1970's home with lots of paneling.

Is it easier to paint over it or risk what you will find if you tear it out. I'm talking paneling in the dining room, living room, bedrooms, halls, it's everywhere.

    Hi Patricia,

You never know what surprise you will get behind the paneling. Painting it is an option if you will enjoy the look. Otherwise you might just try removing the panels in the smallest room to get an idea of what may be in store for you. That will at least keep any repairs minimized to a small area.

I painted mine at my last house, and it looked great.

Thanks for letting me know what everyone did. I decided to sell house as is and let someone else decide whether paneling stays, gets painted, or ripped out.
