Pull all the existing weeds; lay down landscape fabric and top with at least three inches of mulch.

Do the initial weeding then put down mulch. You could use "Preen" on top of the mulch.

My neighbor has used epsom salts. You could also spread some mulch.

Stay vigilant and pull weeds as they come up. Also a thick layer of mulch over black fabric will be immensely helpful. Just be sure to give your shrubs some breathing room around their roots.

Pull up weeds and put PREEN out. This stuff is marvelous. Hardly ever pull a weed. Lowes and walmart.

You could also weed then place several layers of newspaper. Mulch after that. Haven't tried preen because of my precious roses 🌹
