Would anyone know the best protective netting to drape over tomato?

13 tomato cages, some with 2 plants hugging one cage. What product or material keeps out birds and vagrant desert animals who LOVE to steal ripe tomatoes before we can harvest? Netting/protective drape must provide sunlight and plenty of air, but which netting and where can I buy it?

    Try bird netting

We have a couple of blueberry bushes of great interest to the birds when the berries begin to ripen. Each year I make a temporary frame using 1/2 inch PVC pipe and joints. I cover the frame with bird netting sold by the big home improvement stores in their garden section. I just wire the netting to the frame and then sit back and watch the birds' futile attempts to get at the blueberries.

  • Any home improvement store will have what you need. There is quite a variety, I just would choose one with a fine mesh, that still les sun through.

You can buy mesh by the yard at Walmart, Joannes or Hancock fabric stores.
