Don't you love the way burlap and lace look together? One thing I don't love are the prices for ready-made burlap runners. Forget about the matching place-mats, napkin rings and shoot don't even think about those darn cute silverware pockets! Each set of 4 can run you from $12-25. Another thing I don't love (because I don't know how to) is sewing. ( It's on my bucket list). I'll show you how I made NO SEW Burlap Lace Runners, Place-mats, Napkin Rings, and Silverware Pockets for a fraction of retail cost!
You will need to find burlap fabric. This will be the bulk of your investment. It is sold by the yard or in larg rolls on Amazon from $10-20 or at your local craft store.
10 yards of any color lace (2-3") you prefer.
If you have ribbon (10mm) in the same color it can add a nice touch along with sticky/mesh rhinestones, mini flowers,  and/or string of decor pearls to add to the napkin rings and pockets. Make it yours with any extras.
The magic tool is clear thin (6mm) double sided tape and scissors. Found at any craft store.
  • Start with easiest first, cut the runner from the fabric you chose. I went with 10x60.
  • Cut your lace for each side 60" and put your double sided tape on bottom of lace not burlap.
  • Place lace where you want it and slowly remove back of double sided tape while you press it down on end of burlap fabric.
  • Repeat opposite side
  • To save time I used the runner as a guide to cut fabric for place-mats.
  • Place-mats are 10x15, cut as many as you need and lace to go with it.
  • I have made them with lace at top/bottom and all around. It depends on how much materials you have.
  • Follow same method with double sided tape.
  • Then cut pockets & rings.
  • Cut pockets anyway you want! I cut 12" x 8" then cut it in half To make 2.
  • Fold length up 4" to make the pocket.
  • If you want all sides enclosed use dbl sided tape or leave open you really can't tell.
There are so many beautiful colors & types of lace to use with burlap. Have fun with it! I am making sets for gifts-can't put a price on a homemade set like this!
I made two different sets 4x8
  • Now, cut your napkin rings 9x2"
  • I like mine long but they can be 7-8"
  • Use whatever embellishments you have, here is a quick and easy napkin ring.
I made two different sets orange and black. Each a little different. I still have a LOT of fabric left! I can't wait to make more!
Trick: If you can feel a lot of the sticky tape from top of fabric thru the lace, I found that applying heat such as ironing it really helps!
It works two fold in really cementing the two fabrics together while also removing the annoyance of all that stickiness.
Thank you for taking a look! Let me know if you have any questions.

Burlap has that aweful smell...can you wash out the odor?

I love this project. But, did you line the fabric, or starch it, or in any way make it more rigid?
