What's the best way to keep my shaded grass green during the summer?

I have full sun in the back yard and the grass is green without much effort. The front yard has a huge tree and is all in shade. I had sod put in this year and it was beautiful in the front yard. Now my front yard looks like "sad grass". What do I do to make it lush during the summer too?

Do you fertilize? If you don't overdo it, it could really help...
Plant a nice ground cover like ajuga or jasmine. The tree roots pull all of the moisture out of the soil so it makes it hard for grass to grow.
Sod is a water hog. DEEP watering. Best to do very early am before direct sun hits area.
Put more grass down and keep watered
rye grass seed is good in shade. Sow some seeds in your current grass. worked for us
