Lots of ivy taking over a hedge how can I deal with it?

ivy has to be killed at the roots. Use a disposable foam brush to paint actual vine, particularly the last couple of feet from the roots, as much as you can, with Roundup. I do not like to spray it, as there's problems with breeze, hitting things you don't want to kill. Keep pets and kids away till it is dry. Should take a few days , and you may need to repeat to get it all.

Make sure you find all the roots that you can. More may pop up so keep an eye on the area and treat as they pop up. I have been working on some wild grape for three years, but the actual mother root is in the neighbors yard, so all I can do is take care of what pops up in my veggie garden. They don't take care of any weeds that run rampant in the upper part of her back yard so I am constantly fighting all kinds of nasty's in my veggie garden that runs along side that area.

You can also order 'stick bugs' that love to eat ivy leaves; contact your local garden center to see if they have any for sale or can order them for you. They are similar in appearance to the praying mantis...multiply on their own & can even survive winter out doors in many locations. Children love them & they are not harmful to children & can be kept indoors in a covered aquarium & fed the leaves of the ivy plant. When you are bored with them...put them back outside in the warmer months.

I had that problem as well, with the vines creeping through my fence, I used the vinegar, epsom salts and Dawn solution. Killed them at my fence line and I continue to check. So far, so good. Do it on a sunny day if you can, works quicker. Good luck!
