Start with one area; improve soil; use the terrace stones to "support" the different levels. Check your area for garden clubs for plants - plant perennials for your area. DO PLANT RESEARCH to avoid invasive plants. Have fun!!! Do a three year plan. :0)

Depending on how high the hill is, you could add some kind of retaining wall to hold the soil back and plant low growing plants such a blue rug, which will spread and is very pretty. Or, you could make a beautiful rock garden using various types of plants and ground cover. Have a blast in however to decide to do your landscaping.

I assume you have a back yard like mine. I have two terraces with two steep hills going up to the terraces. I can't do anything further to mine because of our dogs that trample anything in there way. You could do what I wanted to do, put in longish beds with the lowest point built up to the higher level and plant them. You can intersperse them to break up the hill somewhat and perhaps lay some pavers up to them as a pathway up the hill to make walking easier and bring them together. The areas don't need to be really large in width and length. You could even make an area on the hill into a small seating area amongst the garden areas. Good luck on your endeavor and have fun with it!

Make terraces using old railroad ties. I like the idea of using pavers for a pathway up the hill as mention above. The ancient Peruvians can give you plenty of ideas.

    Have fun with it.
