If you prefer a more natural approach, then nematodes might be the perfect solution for you. They are microscopic worms that feed on flea larvae and other insects in your yard, this includes termites. The nematodes are completely harmless to humans, pets, plants, trees and your lawn, so you don’t have to worry about any of that. They are sprayed directly to the areas where the fleas live, preferably with shade, as nematodes don’t tolerate the hot sun very well.

Look into diatomaceous earth !!! I just ordered some to deal with an ant problem. It's natural, safe for lawn and animals., Even has health benefits!

I bought it on Amazon...I bought organic, made in USA , food grade , it was about $10 for 2 lbs. Read about it , it's very interesting !

    .yHi Lena,

There are a couple of ways, as you need to understand fleas and their life cycle. Firstly fleas NEED blood protein to grow to adulthood, so not letting them get a feed is a start. Secondly a spray with a synthetic Pyrethrin spray will kill adult fleas and nymphs (young fleas) on contact very quickly. Also flea eggs will stay dormant for up to 12 months before hatching it's important to spray the yard with a good soaking of the insecticide - making sure you wont have rain for a couple of days and don't water the ground for at least a few days either. Then in 6 weeks time you need to respray the area again as this is the usual birth cycle of fertilised eggs.

This should stop the birth maturity egg rehatch cycle.

Remove any pet bedding and wash it in hot water with a flea shampoo, clean up any loose wood, toys dog and cat bowls, remove clothes from lines and close windows, make sure the neighbours pets are out of the way too before commencing the spray. Have your pets and anyone else out of the yard for a few hours till the chemical dries.

You can sprinkle Lime around the yard to act as a barrier to help prevent fleas from moving in. The spray and lime will also help combat, cockroaches, spiders, ants etc... A quote from a qualified pest company is also an option and prices vary, they will also need you to tidy the yard to allow any chemical to cover properly.

A barrier spray around your doors and windows will stop them entering your home. Fleas like children't sand pits and places where they can burrow into the ground easily.

    Good Luck

    Andrew
