Will old paneless windows hold stained glass?

Will an old, paneless window stiffen up sufficiently to hold stained glass? All the joints shift. Hate to putty and point something that will fall apart.

Using construction adhesive to reglue the joints and use heavy duty staples to reinforce from the back side.
You could also use small strips of wood (like bandaids) placed diagonally at each corner with finishing nails.
