Ugly metal front door- what should I do?

I have an ugly metal front door. It is flat with no trim. I was thinking of either painting it a bright color then stenciling my address numbers in glow in the dark paint or adding some decorative trim to make it look like a panelled wooden door. If I decide on the trim, how do I attach it? I thought of glueing it but this door has a glass storm door in front of it that gets really hot and I'm afraid the glue would melt. Any ideas or advice would be appreciated. Sherrie

  • you should try to take a look at the July Issue of HGTV Magazine. Lots of front door and curb appeal ideas. I think you are right though, the heat will affect the glue. You could perhaps paint a trim or border if the door is that plain.

I hadn't thought of that. See why I'm hesitant to do anything? ;)

My back door is the same as the front. Maybe I'll experiment on that first. Thanks.

I used sheet metal screws to attach a brass kick plate to the bottom of my metal door. Changed the door handle to a larger fancy brass one . Made a plain Jane door look more expensive.

You can use molding to create a design on the door, perhaps screwing the pieces into the door if you cannot glue them? Then a good paint for metal and you can get a whole new look!

I have a lot of power tools (some inherited, some purchased) but I'm afraid of ruining the door. I guess I'll have to girl up and take the plunge!
