Hey, everyone! Today I'll be showing you a very popular project - DIY Honeycomb Shelves - using ONLY dollar store products! Because I challenged myself to make this project cheap, I only ended up spending $8 on everything... and it has lasted over 6 months (and still going strong!). I hope you enjoy, and definitely give this DIY a try!

I purchased 2 bags of 100-each popsicle sticks (each $1 of course), and while I did end up needing the second bag I didn't use all of the sticks. You will also need a glue gun, glue sticks, and wood stain (Which is optional).
I laid out my design and compared it to the image in the bottom left corner as a template, and one I was confident with the structure, I started gluing the ends of each stick together.
I continued to stack the popsicle sticks in an alternating over-under pattern until the shelves were about 2 1/2 inches wide. I made some smaller hexagon shelves in addition to the larger 3-branched one!
Once I was finished, I brought the shelves outside and gave them about a coat and a half of irregularly painted wood stain. Like I mentioned in the video, the stain is not from the dollar store, but it was cheap (and optional). Safety tips: Do NOT forget to wear gloves and preferably a mask! Also, DO NOT wash the stain from the brush down your sink... the toxins in the wet stain aren't safe and could go into your water system.
After letting my shelves dry in the garage for 12-24 hours, I hung them up! A few people were skeptical about the structural integrity of these, considering they were made with hot glue and dollar store popsicles, but mine have been supporting vases and plants for months without issue!
Suggested materials:

Couldn't you use the commercial grade of the hot glue for better stability? Also use spray instead of stain in coordinating colors ?

Why not wood glue? Was glue gun used so that the project would take less time? Thanks, Pat
