Repurpose Old Record Albums Into Beautiful Garden Art!

My husband recently became obsessed with his new/old record console and has been on a mission to find some "good" records. In our search for records, we have also come across a lot of records that are completely scratched and do not work anymore so we had to find a way to reuse them instead of tossing them.

And we did and they are awesome! They also make a great gift to give or as a great item to make and sell for some extra cash.

You will need:

2 records
a small metal bowl for in the oven
spray paint
piece of pvc pipe (or anything you want to use for a stake)
a screw and a washer
Preheat your oven to 200* F. Place your metal bowl inside the oven and center your record on top of it. Your record is going to eventually heat up and soften and the sides will begin to fall. This can take anywhere from 2-5 minutes
When your sides have fallen and are completely flexible, using oven mitts, remove the record from the oven and begin to shape your record. You can shape your record around your bowl or you can flip it over and just hold it in place while it cools back down and hardens into place. It may take a few tries to get the right technique. If you need to, just put it back in the oven again, reheat it and try again.
When you are doing your second record you are going to want to make sure that one will fit inside the other. For your back record you do not need to mold up the sides as far, you can just give it more of a wavy edge. It's entirely up to you as long as one will fit inside the other.
Once you have the records shaped, take them outside and spray paint them however you would like. I used a few colors to help give it a little more definition and excitement to my garden.
Then take a screw and washer and attach your flower to your pvc pipe. I just used a screw and washer I had laying around the house that would fit through the hole in the record. I also used leftover pvc pipe which was 1/2" thick.
Once the flower was attached to the stem, I added a bit of spray paint to the inside of the flower to give a bit more color as well as covering up the color of the silver screw.

Then add your flower to your garden or give it away as a gift!

They are so much fun to make too! We've also made bird feeders and pencil/pen/scissors holder's too. I have those up on my blog 😊
