Turn a few reclaimed items into a whimsical, rustic bug to beautify your walls for summer. All you need are a few things you can easily find at a thrift or craft store your decor will be cuter than ever!
I love blue and white.  It is definitely my colour scheme of choice and always has been.  There is something so clean, crisp and calming about those colours when they are paired together.

I found this roll of vintage wallpaper last year and instantly loved the pretty, clean design.  It was free, so it was a no brainer to grab it up and stash it away until I needed it.

With summer fast approaching, I wanted to make something new to go on the old screen window salvaged a couple of years ago.   I thought of the beautiful blue and white striped wallpaper and how perfect it would be for the wings of a rustic bug.
To make the wings, I bent two wire coat hangers into a shape I liked…

and then cut pieces of the wallpaper to cover them.
The wire was easy to cover with the thick paper and a little hot glue held it in place.
Four smaller pieces of burlap cut to go over the paper wings added a little dimension.

To make the body, a reclaimed spindle was painted with Fusion Mineral Paint in Casement and the wings were attached to the back.
To finish off my new little bug, I used a couple of left over twigs from the Lavender project I did as antennae...
and the bottom of the spindle got a little bundle of raffia.
This little whimsical dragonfly (or butterfly… your choice) is perfect as wall art.

And… against my old screen window… just makes me smile.

No question, just wanted to say how cute this is.

This is so cute. But for anyone who lives in the south I would try a different kind of glue. Hot glue will turn loose in the heat!

Hot glue for the attachment of wings to body?
