I haven't painted fabric, but it's currently on my list to paint two upholstered wing-back chairs and I have researched. Two ideas - one is to sand the fabric between each coat of paint. Another was to iron between each coat of paint. Can't attest to either, but wanted to pass along. Good luck!

I don't have an answer, but my friend painted an old sofa to use in their mountain house. When I walked in I thought it was a leather sofa. Could not believe the transformation!

We painted our sofa for our daughters apartment and I also sanded between coats and I used fabric medium with the paint so it didn't get too hard. Worked beautifully.
