We lost a portion of our ceiling when an upstairs bathroom sprung a leak. If you just need to replace the popcorn part, just use drywall compound. Smear it on and use wadded up newspaper to "popcorn" it. You may need to paint the whole ceiling so it doesn't mismatch in color, but it should blend in appearance-wise. You can't tell where the old ceiling stops and the new part we put in starts.
