We I was a kid we used a nickel and a spoon, first I had a small hole drilled in the middle of the nickel, then I took the spoon and tapped on the outer edge of the nickel . This would leave ding marks on the edge, depending on how wide you wanted it would depend on on long you tapped the nickel. After I got it as wide as I wanted my ring, I would take a round file and file the hole till I got it all the way to the flatten rim, when I had it all smooth and round I had my ring.
there is also videos on youtube.....
My Dad used to make rings out of silver dimes.
My cousin was in the navy YEARS ago and they made them out of quarters---using only a spoon and a LOT of time (which they had on the ship). Don't ask me how they did it though----
