Red enamel will give an almost identical look of lacque. i did it on a cabinet and it looks beautifu. Lightly sand the fireplace, then using a tack cloth (of damp rag), wipe it down. Using painters tape tape off all areas you don't want painted. Prime the fireplace with light gray tonite latex primer (the paint store will tint it for you). Apply one even coat of primer, let dry. Apply red enamel paint, it could take up to three coats depending on the look you want. Let dry thoroughly between coats. Apply coat of gloss polyurethane, using about 80 grit sandpaper lightly sand after dry. Apply 2nd coat of polyurethane, lightly sand with 100-120 grit sandpaper when dry. You may want to apply 3rd coat of polyurethane and do a final sand using 160 grit sandpaper, again its dependent on the look you want and your patience level!
You would have to use high heat paint, try this in red, mask off the area real good to prevent over spray. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Rust-Oleum-High-Heat-Flat-Blue/46891764?wmlspartner=wlpa&adid=22222222227034785259&wl0=&wl1=g&wl2=c&wl3=67022548129&wl4=aud-310687322322:pla-150228158449&wl5=9033057&wl6=&wl7=&wl8=&wl9=pla_with_promotion&wl10=8175035&wl11=online&wl12=46891764&wl13=&veh=sem
