Bathrooms may not be the focus of much love and attention as kitchens orthe living room, but it does not mean we should neglect it altogether. In fact,in these crazy modern times, the bathroom should offer relaxation and tranquilitymore than a bedroom does.
Here is your private space where – once the doors are closed – you can be aglamorous Hollywood celebrity from the 1930’s or that hunky footballer that themedia loves. Role playing and daydreaming aside, the bathroom is where we cometo unwind and to think. A popular cliché even says that the best plans or ideasare hatched in bathroom.
However, most of us have to contend with dull bathrooms. It may be becauseit does not have space, it does not have enough light, or simply colorcombinations are reminiscent of the cheesy 80’s. We also don’t have milliondollar accounts to turn these bathrooms into our private spas at the drop of ahat but fortunately, ingenuity, resourcefulness, and leafing through magazineshas its rewards.
Below is a list of (and hopefully, doable) suggestions to give those boringbathrooms life.
Choose relaxing and soothing color combinations. A change in a room’s color scheme always doeswonders. The Zen or minimalistaficionado will be drawn to neutral or earth colors which is exactly perfectfor bathrooms. Spas choose these colors for a good reason; a neutral palette islaidback and does not overexcite the senses, paving the way for a more relaxedstate of mind.
On the other hand, your quirky and creative impulse may yearn for a dash ofcolor. Go ahead and explore the possibility of an accent wall. If not, addcolor through pictures.
Create atmosphere through lighting. Often neglected but lightingis an integral part of interior design as well. Left to florescent lightsalone, any space can turn out garish and uninspiring. You definitely don’t wantto look unflattering in the bathroom.
Daily grooming sets your spirit for the rest of the day and harsh lightingcan be bad for your ego. To balance this, think of lighting in layers.Florescent lighting is alright for general purposes but be flirtatious and be alittle sexy with softer ambient and task lighting. Installed above and on bothsides of the vanity will cast even illumination on the face, eliminatingunsightly shadows and creases thus making your daily grooming ritual more funthan a chore.
Upgrade bathroom fittings. Do yourself a favor and get rid of that rusty sink faucet or grimyshowerhead. The bathroom may not have as much fancy gizmos as the kitchen butupdated – and shiny ones at that – will bring your bathroom to the 21stcentury. Of course, there’s room forvintage if that’s the main goal but let’s face it muck isn’t romantic.
Lastly, and if you have the resources, go for glass tiles. Clearly afavorite these days, the number of homeowners and designers who love glasstiles can’t be wrong. With these charming and fashionable pieces, spaces areimmediately transformed from drab to fab. Richer in color and often moreversatile than ceramic, glass tiles is a godsend to many small and dark spaces.Use glass tiles to accent the shower, tub, or vanity areas. If you can manageit, go for a full wall installation and experience how luxurious glass tilesare.
There you are, whether you are a minimalist, traditionalist, or somewherein between – these tips should encourage you to moving towards your dreamhideaway.
