How to prep my kitchen cabinets to stain them?

I want to restain my kitchen cabinets what do I need to do to prepare them....they are a white wash oak right now

    Clean well with TSP, remove doors and hardware (label with tape so you know what goes where ), sand them down and wipe them down to remove the dust . You should be ready to restain . Don't forget to apply polyurethane as a sealant afterwards .

    I agree with all but the polyurethane. If you use a paint especially formulated for kitchen cabinets like Sherwin Williams has no need for any thing else on top of the paint

    Do I use a palm sander to sand with ?

    I would definitely do it carefully, by hand.
