Is it Wet nail polish ... or polish that has dried and hardened? I've only had the (bad luck) to experience a bottle of dark red nail polish crack open and spill over brand new carpeting of about a week old! I immediately grabbed the nail polish remover and a bunch of clean old t-shirt material and kept dabbing away, turning the rag often so that a clean side of the material was working the remover in. Our carpet was a pale blue so it took well over an hour but it worked. Only a very slight stain remained. I have had no experience with dry nail polish; the one "wet experince" was plenty for my lifetime!! Good luck!
First, try to scrape or scratch as much of the polish off of the carpet. Be sure to remove as much loose polish as possible. Next, use a cotton ball dipped in a small amount of non-acetone polish directly over the spill and start dabbing with a clean paper towel. Dab the area over and over as you alternate with clean cotton balls and clean paper towels. Don't rub the stain because you'll tease the fabric and smear the stain. If you still have discoloration, you can try using hair spray and paper towels (as above). Finally, follow with fresh water and clean toweling, dabbing u til almost dry.
In the salon when we had a nail polish spill we always completely saturated the stain with hairspray (because of the alcohol in it) and dabbed it up with a clean white cloth. Good luck!

I would take a clean rag and pour the polish remover on the spot and rub until the polish it out.
