Birch log birdhouse
-
Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jan 29, 2014The easiest way would be to use a drill with a spade or flat bit on the end. Carefully fasten the log to a flat board on one end and stand it up. Then using the drill simply drill a series of holes into the log. Moving the drill bit over just enough so it does not cut into the last hole. Once done, a flat chisel carefully pushed into the spaces between each drilled hole should remove the remaining wood. you can get larger bits but they require a larger drill that can be difficult to use. But a one inch spade bit with a small hand drill will work nicely. Once done simply remove the plywood on the end. The other option is to cut the log directly down the center with a thin saw. Then using a set of sharp chisels remove the interior area of the log. Once done using a good quality exterior wood glue, glue the two halves back together again. If done carefully you will never see the glue joint.Helpful Reply
