I received old tapestry from my late Aunt. It was made in Belgium. It is starting to fade. Is there a way I could refurbish it and bring out the colours

If it has any value to you have it done professionally, different fabrics and dyes react differently to modern day soaps and cleaning solutions. We had an old carpet persian type washed it outside laid flat on a sheet of plastic and v soft brushes a solution of water and vinegar.Vinegar is to help fix colors and revitalize them.Usually whta you get is the beat that was already in drum.Mine turned out brighter and revitalized.

If it is old please have it cleaned professionally by someone who knows what they are doing. If it is faded, the colors will probably not come back as bright as they were. Ask how to care for it after you get it cleaned.

  • I agree, with prior suggestions. Have cleaned professionally and enjoy having such a special piece.

First of all I would ask a lady in a dry cleaners. . do not dry clean, just ask. Also search the SEARCH on the comp., and see what they say. If they do not answer you, I would try a small area, and put some liquid soap, just a little on a corner of it, and wipe it off, with clear water. Just try a little bit first, just to see.

I know they actually make a product for cleaning tapestry although I don't know the name of it. But, even at that, I agree with all above: Have it dry cleaned. One small mistake could ruin your heirloom. I hope we helped you.
